Emma Thompson will play Beatrix Potter in
a new film about the children's author.
The Oscar winner has spoken to Australian director
Bruce Beresford about the role in Miss Potter. Alan Rickman
may play Potter's secret admirer.
Thompson, 41, is said to be fascinated by
Beatrix Potter, who died at the age of 77 in 1943.
She created stories such as the Tale of Peter Rabbit
after watching family pets close to her home in the Lake District,
which is now a museum.
A friend told Ananova: "Emma, being a mum
now herself, was charmed by Potter's stories when she was a child.
She thinks it is a huge honour that somebody would want her to
play a woman who has contributed so much to English literature."

Emma has been nominated for an Emmy
as "Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie"
for her work in "Angels in America", the HBO drama
about the 1980s AIDS crisis in New York, which is leading
any other program with 21 Emmy nominations. The Ceremony will
take place in LA in September. It's going to be tough because
among the other nominees are Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and
Helen Mirren, but I am sure Emma's chances are good. She was
nominated before for both her acting and writing in Wit (2001)
and actually won in 1998 for her guest starring in "Ellen".
Good luck, Emma!
