April is my favourite month... Springtime
is knocking on the door, there is more daylight and on April
16th I always become a year older and (hopefully) a little
bit wiser. Also, and not in the least less important, my
favorite actress, the magnificent Emma Thompson, was born
on April 15th.
Almost 9 years ago, the first time I went
on the Internet at University, my first search at Infoseek
was "Emma Thompson". The text browser came back
with a couple of websites and I couldn't see much because
it skipped the graphics (apart from taking an eternity to
download anything).
About two years later, I got myself some
free web space in Geocities (back then it didn't have so
many annoying pop-ups nor was it owned by Yahoo!) and I
attempted to build a very basic website, only in Spanish
for starters. You
can still see it on Geocities (time hasn't done it any
favours, it looks horrible). I lost my password at some
point and the system wouldn't let me get back in, that is
why is still there. So, officially, this website has11.11.04 0:27 AMeveral different incarnations-
since May 15th 1997, and next month we are going
to be Seven years old!
That's an awfully long time but it's been
worth every moment. I met really nice people on the internet
(the first thing you learn is that we are not alone) and
had lots of fun updating my little website and feeling that
I was doing something for all the other fans out there.
Emma has grown with us and, seven years later, I have swapped
my VHS tapes for DVDs and I live in England. She's made
several more movies, got married again and had a lovely
child, Gaia. Funnily enough, Emma looks even more beautiful
these days and her dress sense has improved quite a bit.
Sorry, Emma, but... your second wedding dress... much, much
better than the first one, to be honest (mind you, it was
the eighties and we all have some embarrassing photos from
back then).
And now she is getting back on the saddle
and making more movies (not only cameos!). I liked her terribly
in "Love actually", I was amazed at "Angels
in America" and I am looking forward to finally see
"Imagining Argentina", no matter what some stuffy
critics wrote at the Venice festival last year. Then, there
is Harry Potter 3 coming up in June and her adaptation of
the Nanny McPhee Diaries.
Let's celebrate that we are still here,
celebrating Emma, and let's hope she keeps doing wonderful
films and, therefore, making us happy. Thank you for coming
back.
Yours faithfully,
